Students from the Psychology course developed a playful and interactive activity with elderly people from the cognitive stimulation group at the Casa de Deus Community Work Center (CTC CD) in Goiânia, Goiás. The proposal consisted of creating an "adapted volleyball court" using balloons and lightweight materials, promoting a moment of fun, socialization, and cognitive stimulation among the participants.
The activity was designed to work on different cognitive and motor skills, such as attention, gross motor coordination, spatial perception, quick thinking, concentration, teamwork, and reaction time. Divided into groups, participants interacted cooperatively and competitively, making the experience even more engaging and meaningful.
In addition to cognitive stimulation, the activity fostered social integration, strengthened bonds, and encouraged the active participation of older adults, respecting the limits and potential of each individual. The proposal also reinforces the importance of playful strategies in the care of older adults, showing how play can be a powerful tool in promoting mental health, autonomy, and quality of life.
The experience provided students with an enriching practical experience, bridging the gap between theory and practice in the context of aging, while simultaneously strengthening the social commitment of the outreach project to the community.
