On Saturday, August 1st, UNIALFA Goiânia hosted the "D-Day" of the "My Father Has a Name" Program, an initiative of the Public Defender's Office of the State of Goiás (DPE-GO) carried out in partnership with the institution. The event took place in Block D of the Perimetral Unit and offered free services focused on paternity and maternity recognition, including cases of biological and socio-affective filiation.
Throughout the day, 74 consultations were conducted, including both pre-scheduled and walk-in appointments. The initiative brought together families seeking legal guidance, document regularization, and the development of agreements related to paternity recognition, custody, child support, and family visitation, according to the screening and suitability of each case.
More than just providing legal assistance, the initiative represented an opportunity to access fundamental rights. For many families, the recognition of paternity, maternity, or socio-affective filiation is linked not only to civil registration, but also to identity, belonging, and the formalization of bonds built throughout life.
Partnership strengthens access to justice.
Held in partnership with the Public Defender's Office of Goiás, the "D-Day" event brought the community closer to free and specialized legal services. During the consultations, the teams guided participants on the possible paths for the voluntary recognition of a biological father or mother, with or without a DNA test, as well as situations involving adoptive fathers or mothers.
The action also addressed, according to the analysis of the cases and the consensus between the parties, demands related to custody, child support, and family visitation. In these situations, guidance and mediation were carried out aimed at building agreements.
Participating in the event were public defenders Dr. Tiago Gregório, Public Defender-General; Dr. Bruno Malta, current coordinator of the Specialized Center for Extrajudicial Action (NAE) of the Public Defender's Office of the State of Goiás; and Dr. Alan Joss, Deputy Public Defender-General of the State, the latter also a professor at ALFA EDUCAÇÃO. The presence of the institutions reinforced the joint commitment to expanding access to justice and promoting extrajudicial solutions for family conflicts.

The initiative also had the support of the UNIALFA Law School and the supervised participation of students. During the action, the students followed stages of extrajudicial legal services, including document screening, supervised guidance, observation of mediations, and support in formalizing the terms of understanding.
The coordinator of the Legal Practice Center, Professor Dr. Karla Vaz, highlighted that "D-Day" is an action not only of social relevance, but also of learning for UNIALFA students, who receive the opportunity to follow the resolution of legal conflicts without the need for a judicial process.
“The consensual movement, which is the extrajudicial resolution of the dispute, is much more beneficial, since it rebuilds bonds, it, in addition to guaranteeing rights, also delivers a rescue of history, a rescue of families, in fact, that for one reason or another ended up distancing themselves, or sometimes the reality that the person lives did not have a record, in the case of socio-affective paternities and maternities,” adds Karla.
For the students, the activity also represented an opportunity to understand the social dimension of legal practice. By engaging with family histories, documents, questions, and conflicts, the students were able to develop essential skills for the profession, such as listening, responsibility, communication, and sensitivity to different realities.
Law, citizenship and social transformation
The "My Father Has a Name" Day event at UNIALFA Goiânia reinforced the importance of the partnership between higher education and public institutions in promoting citizenship. By providing opportunities to serve the community and involving students in a supervised activity, the institution strengthens the integration between academic training, legal practice, and social responsibility.
Actions like this help students understand that each interaction represents a life story and requires ethical, empathetic, and technically responsible conduct.
In addition to the event held at UNIALFA Goiânia, the "D-Day" of the "My Father Has a Name" Program also took place at Public Defender's offices in different municipalities of Goiás, expanding the reach of the initiative and providing services to families in various regions of the state.
By carrying out this action, UNIALFA reaffirms its commitment to the practical training of students, service to the community, and the strengthening of initiatives that bring Law closer to people's lives.
