Psychology students from UNIALFA visit CAPS Noroeste and deepen their knowledge about the public mental health network.

Students from the Health Psychology I course at UNIALFA participated in a technical visit to the Northwest Psychosocial Care Center (Caps) in Goiânia on November 7th and 14th. The activity was led by Professor Jéssyca Borges and included a welcome from psychologist Sara, who presented the service's operation and its mental health care practices.

The CAPS (Center for Psychosocial Care) is part of the Psychosocial Care Network (RAPS) of the Unified Health System and works to welcome and support people with severe and persistent mental disorders, as well as individuals with needs arising from the use of alcohol and other drugs. With a focus on humanized treatment, the service promotes therapeutic groups, workshops, and activities that strengthen the autonomy, emotional bonds, and social participation of its users.

During the visit, the students experienced the daily routine of an essential community service within the public mental health policy. The experience allowed them to understand, in practice, how regionalized and multidisciplinary care is structured, as well as the challenges and potential of the work developed by the team.

Direct contact with CAPS (Psychosocial Care Centers) broadens academic training through experiences within the dynamics of such an important service, which is fundamental for students to understand the role of the psychologist in the SUS (Brazilian Public Health System) and the importance of practices that prioritize listening, welcoming, and social reintegration.

This activity reinforces the commitment to offering education aligned with the real needs of society, promoting practical experiences and social responsibility for UNIALFA students.
