Brazil is one of the largest exporters of agricultural commodities, such as meat (beef, pork and poultry), grains (soybean and corn), orange juice, coffee and sugar, products that boost the country's economy and increase stock market prices. With the growth of agribusiness, rural accounting plays an important role, providing information on inventories, prices, depreciation of machinery and equipment. With this and other accounting information, it is easier to measure revenues and expenses, and makes it easier for managers to make decisions.

Accounting is a science that studies an entity's assets through accounts of assets, rights and obligations. It is a set of techniques that are used to better manage the operations carried out in entities, in several specific distributions. It is divided into several branches and one of them is the rural sector. The accountant is very important in this segment, as he/she provides guidance and accounts on the raising of animals or permanent and perennial crops.
“We are in a region where agribusiness is very significant. We have companies operating in various types of activities, such as grain production and livestock. In addition to the poultry and pork markets, there are also several agribusinesses in the food sector and other products from the rural sector,” explains Carlos Eduardo Gonçalves de Oliveira, professor of Accounting Sciences at UNIALFA.
There is a stereotype of the bookkeeping accountant. More popularly, he is called a “darfista”. However, in practice, the accountant who spends hours in the office entering invoices and printing forms no longer exists. “Today we have a professional who spends his working hours providing a more consultative and analytical service, helping with administrative and control solutions and bringing more quality information to the management of companies”, says Carlos Eduardo.
Accounting processes are increasingly modern, with more complete operating systems. The role of accountants in agribusiness is quite promising. “We have seen noticeable changes in the agricultural sector, as many of the administrations that were previously carried out by parents are now being succeeded by their children, who are already a generation that has pursued higher education, MBAs, and has a more technical managerial and market vision. Therefore, they seek to employ more capable and qualified professionals. All of this favors the job market for accounting professionals,” emphasizes the professor.
